Gloucester Massachusetts - Health Quarters is committed to providing all our patients with exceptional care. When a patient cancels without giving enough notice, they prevent another patient from being seen. Please call us at (888) 727-9428 by 2 p.m. on the business day prior to your scheduled appointment to notify us of any changes or cancellations. If prior notification is not given, you may be charged $25 for the missed appointment.
Please bring proof of insurance and a photo ID. We recommend contacting your insurance company directly to confirm your eligibility and benefits. You are welcome to call us the day before the appointment. We may have some benefit information available at that time.
If you are accompanied by children or babies a separate responsible adult is required at all times to care for the child in the waiting area.
If you are more than 10 minutes late for an appointment, we cannot guarantee that we can see you. Sometimes we will be able to work you into the schedule, other times we may have to reschedule your appointment for the next day.
Here is what you can expect during a sexual health visit to Health Quarters
At Health Quarters, we know that making decisions like starting a birth control method or coming in for STD or HIV testing can sometimes be scary or embarrassing – especially if this is your first visit to a reproductive health care clinic. You may worry you will need to have a pelvic exam or wonder what kinds of questions you will be asked and whether or not the answers will be kept confidential. While each visit to Health Quarters is unique in terms of clinical needs and care, we want to provide a brief overview of what you can expect during a typical visit. We hope that by doing so, we can ease any fears and reassure you that our primary goal is always to ensure your comfort and confidentiality, while simultaneously providing the highest level of health care possible.
After checking in at the front desk upon arrival and completing any necessary paperwork, our medical assistant will walk you back into the exam area alone. They may ask you to provide a urine sample in the bathroom, which can be used to check for STDs like Gonorrhea and Chlamydia, test for pregnancy, and/or test for a urinary tract infection. Afterwards, the medical assistant will then escort you to a private exam room to take your blood pressure, record your height and weight, and discuss your family, medical, and sexual history. The medical assistant will ask you some questions that might feel very personal or embarrassing to answer. It is important to remember that all of this information is an important and normal part of your health and wellness. Everything discussed during this visit is 100% confidential, and these questions are necessary in order to ensure the best possible health care, so it is always best to answer honestly, and as thoroughly as you can. If you are interested in discussing birth control options, the medical assistant will review all possible options and answer any questions you might have. Depending on the nature of the visit, the medical assistant may then ask you to get undressed, so that the nurse practitioner can do a physical exam.
The nurse practitioner will then come in to see you. She will listen and discuss current symptoms and concerns with you. She will then conduct a focused physical exam and obtain any specimens needed for testing, if necessary. Some testing can be completed in the office with results while you wait, while other testing needs to be sent off to a lab and takes about a week to get the results back. After the physical exam and testing have been completed, the nurse practitioner will return to your exam room to discuss any findings, diagnoses, and treatment plan options. Together, you will formulate a treatment plan and discuss any necessary follow ups or referrals. She will discuss any prescriptions needed including when and how to take the medication. It is important to use this opportunity to ask any questions you may have. The Nurse Practitioner is there to answer your questions and has written information available for further reading and guidance if needed. Once the plan is in place and you feel all your questions have been answered, you can head back to the front desk to schedule a follow up appointment if necessary. Then, breathe of a sigh of relief – you did it!
