The Shot

The shot, also called the Depo-Provera shot is a once every three month shot given by your practitioner. The shot contains progestin which prevents the ovaries from releasing eggs and thickens the mucus in the cervix thus preventing sperm mobility. Fertility can return as soon as 12 weeks following the last injection, though for some users it can take up to 9 months for fertility to return. Less than 1 out of 100 people will get pregnant each year if they always use the birth control shot as directed. About 6 out of 100 people will get pregnant each year if they don’t always use the birth control shot as directed.
